If you have been on social media at all in the last few days, you probably came across the now-viral clip of Tyrese expressing his grief over not being able to see his daughter, Shayla.
Here’s a brief summary of what led up to the video…
The actor and his ex-wife, Norma Gibson, are in the middle of a heated custody battle for their 10-year-old daughter, Shayla. After accusing him of child abuse, Tyrese has since been unable to see his daughter. Apparently, it’s been nearly two months since they were last together.
After witnessing what many are calling a ‘meltdown,’ viewers all over the world took to their preferred social media platform to voice their opinions on the matter.
While there has been no shortage of support from social media user across the board, it seems Tyrese’s pain, for the most part, has been made a spectacle of in the media.
How often is it that one sees a devoted father who wants nothing more than to love and provide for his child vent his frustrations on social media? These men do everything in their power to fight against a court who refuses to let them fulfill their DUTY as both men and fathers. Fathers who are obligated by court order to hand over a percentage of their earnings come payday to support a child that they can’t legally spend any time with. When I watched that video, those are men that I saw in Tyrese.
Some critics said family business is best kept private and saw Tyrese’s actions as “phony” and “attention-seeking.” But as he pointed out in the video, he has never been one to air out his personal issues on social media. And I personally can’t remember the last time I heard him spill any tea about his personal life. That, I think, speaks to the authenticity of his sentiments, not takes away from them.
But, things are now looking up for Tyrese.
In the last 24 hours, a new development in the story emerged reporting that all child abuse investigation has been closed.
